Why is it being packaged like junk food? If Liquid nicotine is a poison----SCIENCE  The appetizing packaging could put lives at risk

Among the products that were called out by US regulators in a flurry of warning letters was something called Whip’d Strawberry, packaged in such a way that it looks like Reddi-wip topping. But it’s liquid nicotine — and if a hungry kid mistakenly squirted it into their mouth, they could face vomiting, seizures, and even death.

Elite Vaporworks and Cosmic Fog Vapors, two companies that sell the product, are among therecipients of 13 warning letters the US Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission sent today. The charge? The e-cig liquids look too appetizing, and it’s putting kids’ lives at risk.

Nicotine is poisonous because it mimics one of the chemical messengers that nerves use to communicate. Too much, and it can mess up signals like the ones tell your heart how fast to beat and your muscles to move, and can lead to vomiting, abd…

Snap's second-generation has more improvement

Snap’s second-generation Spectacles are more grown up — and more expensive
Snap today released the next generation of Spectacles, its wearable camera, with new features for taking photos and water resistance. The sunglasses, which have the same striking form as the first-generation model, have been slimmed down and now come in three jewel tones: onyx (black), ruby (red), and sapphire (blue). They’re available to order starting today at for $150 — $20 more than the previous model.
If you’ve followed the story of Spectacles so far, you know that the first version proved to be a costly misstep for Snap Inc. Although reviewers were generally impressed with their whimsical design, Snap made far more units than the 150,000 or so that it ultimately sold. The company wrote down nearly $40 million in merchandise, and laid off about a dozen people.
Even worse, from the company’s perspective, is that people who bought Spectacles didn’t use them for very long. According to Busines…

New Feature on Pintrest-It allows you filter search results by skin tone

Pinterest now lets you filter search results by skin tone Pinterest has rolled out new changes that let users filter hair and beauty search results by skin tone ranges, as a way to make it easier to find what you may be looking for. The changes come after the social media platform conducted a survey and found that 70 percent of people used the service to find and save everyday looks and styles. A Medium post from Pinterest’s engineering account says the process of programming the search filters to detect skin tone in images was difficult, given how lighting, shadows, and other factors were all variables to consider. To solve the issue, Pinterest used machine learning from a third-party beauty app ModiFacethat already had a suitable facial data library for artificial intelligence use. Pinterest then trained the algorithms not to read white skin in dark shadow as dark skin tone, and corrected other mistakes through repeated testing.

Pinterest also noted that when users searched for ski…

WhatsApp is to ban under-16s from using its platform in the European Union.

Popular messaging service WhatsApp is banning under-16s from using its platform in the European Union.
Users must currently be at least 13, but the firm is changing the rules ahead of the introduction of new EU data privacy regulations in May.

The app, which is owned by Facebook, will ask users to confirm their age when prompted to agree new terms of service in the next few weeks.
It has not said how the age limit will be enforced.

At present, WhatsApp does not ask users their age when they join, nor does it cross-reference their Facebook or Instagram accounts to find out.

About a third of all UK-based 12- to 15-year-olds active on social media use WhatsApp,according to a 2017 report by the media regulator Ofcom.

That made it the fifth most popular social network with the age group after Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube.

The chief executive of Childnet International - a charity that is a member of Facebook's Safety Advisory Board - said he thought the firm had more work …

The operation, which involved the UK's National Crime Agency, blocked - which allows criminals to buy attacks on businesses.
The site was used by a British suspect to attack high street banks last year, causing hundreds of thousands of pounds of damage.
Six suspected members of the gang behind the site have been arrested, with computers seized in the UK, Holland and elsewhere.
What was the website doing? The site targeted in this week's operation was one of many operating openly on the web as a "stresser" business, offering to test a company's cyber-defences.
Investigators say that the gang sold cyber-attacks for as little as $14.99 (almost £11) - meaning that anyone who wanted to attack a web service could do so wi…
